48 Hour Film Fest - Update
A huge thank you to everyone who came, to those who couldn't make it but helped with the planning for our storyline, to those whanau who brought kai and helped with costumes and props, to our local film whānau for your support and to our funders for making it all so much easier to happen.
Beyond thankful.
Saturday: Film day went from 8am-4pm - it was a really long day. We had everyone home by 5:30/6pm. We filmed enough to do an entire webseries. More on this to come.
Sunday: Editing day. We need more devices. End of. We also needed more time but we did really well considering. I had to do the final edit once I'd dropped all the kids home. We missed the deadline. We had to cut several scenes out in order to make the time limit for the short film. We were disqualified and I contacted the organisers, our funders etc and let them know we'd missed the deadline.
Monday: still exhausted and still gutted.
Tuesday: got told we could still upload to the Screening Room. Told we could still upload to the 48 Hour Digital Pigeon too for Best Disqualified Prize. I added a couple of the scenes we'd cut out, fixed the credits a bit more, added our Mount Up whānau names in and thanked our sponsors. Checked spelling and did a final edit. Uploaded.
When I told the kids today we were disqualified... Because I'd missed our deadline (by seven minutes) -- they were upset of course.
When I told them we got told to still upload it so we could enter the Best Disqualified Prize - they laughed heaps and got excited again.
I reminded them that there over 500 teams this year -- and the win for me was bringing them all together to make the film, put into practice all the skills they'd been working towards over the past two years.
They're still a bit shy about the film they've made. Encourage them and tell them how freaking cool they are. So much nervousness and concern about being bullied and judged for their bravery in filmmaking and acting.
We can't share the link to it out yet -- we had a small screening this arvo for the kids in the roopu and there will be a bigger one later on too.
